Green technologies - Sustainability
We provide funding for programs that promote
sustainability and the advancement of new environmental
and energy technologies; infrastructure development
and improvement in the area of sustainable,
green technologies; and programs that promote
environmental stewardship in the areas of conservation,
habitat restoration and energy efficiency.
Habitat for Humanity – San
Diego County:
In partnership
with Habitat for Humanity, the Sempra Energy
Foundation will help to construct the 100th
Habitat home in the City of San Diego. This
home will be the first GREEN Habitat home
and feature all the latest green technologies
in building materials.
California Coastal Commission:
Touted
as California’s largest clean-up of waterways
including oceans, streams, rivers, canyons
and lakes, the Sempra Energy Foundation is
one of the major sponsors of the California
Coastal Commission’s annual “Coastal
Clean-up Day” scheduled for Saturday,
September 20 at more than 300 locations throughout
the state. This event is part of an International
Coastal Cleanup which includes all 50 U.S.
states and more than 65 countries worldwide. In
2007, globally, nearly 400,000 people
picked up 6 million pounds of
debris from over 35,000 miles of land.
Ducks Unlimited – Westlake
Louisiana Chapter:
Working
with the team from Ducks Unlimited in Westlake,
LA, the Sempra Energy Foundation has funded
a grant that will help local environmental
researchers and biologists to examine the
marine life decline in the Black Lagoon
area. Additionally, a re-vegetation
and re-stocking program will be implemented
as part of a new student outreach program
that will launch in the Fall of 2008 with
nearly a dozen local area schools in Southwest,
LA.
